If traveling to our area... most recent update. Be safe!FRIDAY 10AM SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE I'LL BE LIVE ON FACEBOOK AT 12:45PM Our area has been upgraded to a moderate risk of severe weather. On a scale from 1-5, that's a 4. Here's a break down of what to expect and when. INGREDIENTS - As we've talked about all week, how much sun we get would ultimately determine how widespread severe weather could be today. Unfortunately, the rain this morning will move out and we already see sun breaking out to our south. That means there will be plenty of fuel to feed storms. Because the winds just above the ground are so strong, it won't take much to bring those damaging winds to the ground. TIMING - Rain will move out this morning then the sun will break out. It will take a little while for the air to destabilize but from 12pm - 4pm, we'll watch for the development of individual storms that will be capable of rotating and producing a tornado and damaging winds. The threat of a tornado or two is mainly focused along and west of I-95, but one is possible anywhere. An intense line of storms is still on track to move through these locations during these time frames: 3PM - 6PM: Cheraw, Bennettsville, Harstville, Darlington, Sumter, Laurinburg, Lumberton, Dillon, Marion, Mullins, Florence, Lake City, Johnsonville, and Kingstree. 6PM - 8PM: Loris, Conway, Socastee, Myrtle Beach, Surfside, Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Pawleys Island, and Georgetown. Once the line moves through your area, the threat for severe weather will be over. It will end from west to east and be completely over by 8-9pm. THREATS DAMAGING WINDS - There could be many reports of damaging wind in our area. Most thunderstorm gusts will be around 60 mph, but we could see a few extreme gusts to 75 mph. Don't take this threat lightly. TORNADO - The threat of a tornado or two is mainly focused along and west of I-95, but one is possible anywhere especially with any individual storms. Within the line of storms, the threat of a tornado is lower but not zero. HAIL - One or two storms will be capable of pea to quarter size hail. FLOODING - Including the rain this morning, many areas will get 1-2" of rain with a few spots up near 3". Streets and low lying areas may seem some minor flooding. WHAT TO DO - To be totally safe, bring in or tie down any loose objects outside and make sure you have a way to get warnings. Download our app by searching WPDEWX in the app store. GRAPHICS - The Storm Prediction Center develops maps that give you an idea of what the chances of a tornado, large hail (>1") and damaging winds (>58mph) are within 25 miles of a point. The area hatched in black on the damaging wind chance map indicates a 10% chance of 75 mph winds within 25 miles of a point. PLEASE stay weather aware and be ready to take action IF severe weather heads your way! ...
